Time Management. Working out is possible.

All right, so everyone has their own excuses for not working out, but usually it's the same one... " I just don't have the time."  Well I’m here to tell you that if I can run a business, be a great husband and father to two boys (which includes taking them to practice and coaching their football teams) and I can still fit in AT LEAST one workout a day, then anyone can.

I think you need to look at why you want to workout. The only person you should be doing this for is yourself. That will give you the most motivation. You should workout and do it for YOURSELF so that YOU can be healthy, so that YOU can feel better, so that YOU can be more confident. See, it's about YOU!

So it comes down to time management. Whatever it may be that’s preventing you from bettering yourself you need to get over that. If you’re realistic, you can really squeeze in at least a 30 minute workout. Granted, everyone may not have time for the hour plus Yoga X in P90X, but you can work up a good sweat and burn some calories in a 30 min workout. Whether it’s half of a P90X video, maybe it’s a couple Ten Minute Trainers or something else, just do something every single day that gets your heart rate up and will keep it there for at least 30 min. On top of that, try to eat as cleanly as possible.  Remember, 80% of the battle of the bulge is about diet and nutrition. You will never see the results of your hard work if your eating habits are poor.  So, what's it worth to you?  Are you willing to give up a little TV?  Are you willing to wake up a little earlier?  Are you willing to make small sacrifices so that you can feel better, look better and live longer?  The answer should be obvious.  Now, it's just your time to make it happen.  Let's get started!

Daily calorie counts, what should yours be?

We all have wondered at least once if we are eating the right amount of food, or more likely if we are eating too many calories and too much food. To be honest it all depends. The Beachbody calorie calculator says that I need 2,764 calories a day to maintain my weight. But my good friend Michael who's trying to lose weight while doing P90X only needs 1,380 calories to reach his goal. Then once he gets to his goal weight and size he will then have to increase his caloric intake to give his body enough fuel for the day. Even after my daily workout I usually stay fairly active, whether it's taking my kids to practice and coaching their football teams to maybe a second workout with a friend. So I usually consume around 3,200 calories a day and that's where I feel my best.

There are a ton of factors involved when trying to figure out what your intake should be: gender, height, weight, age, and your level of activeness all need to be taken into account. You can also take in account some basic numbers. One gram of fat is nine calories, one gram of carbohydrate is four calories and one gram of protein is four calories. Once you better understand what you're putting into your body the better your results can be. If you're more active then your body will require more calories but if you sit on your couch all day then you wont need nearly as many. As I've mentioned in other blogs just try and regulate what goes into your mouth. Go for the whole grain pastas and breads, go for grilled chicken instead of breaded, use spray butter replacement instead of real butter. If you can do all of these things you will be eating healthier and you will feel better. You've got to watch your sodium levels too, even more so those of you in the under 10% body fat. I know that for myself when I was around 4% body fat for a period in my life I really had to watch my sodium intake or I would get bloated and lose that definition I had.

But you must be very careful. A lot of people will workout really hard and then later feel that they have earned a cheat meal and they go to some fast food place and pig out because it's okay. It's not okay. You lose all the progress you made that day and you feel bad after eating it too. You would be surprised how many calories something can have even if it looks or sounds like it would be healthy. If you are really committed to losing those pounds and getting into the best shape of your life then you will do it. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If it were easy then everyone would be fit.

So stick to your diets and exercises, and I know it's difficult and never fun but count your calories that way you know exactly what you're putting into your body. As Tony Horton says "Abs are made in the kitchen."

What does it mean to eat right?

Millions of Americans struggle with weight issues and dieting. So what does it mean to eat right or eat healthy? I can tell you right away that it’s not just about satisfying a craving because you feel hungry; rather, it’s more about providing fuel for your body.

Having a strong discipline is a huge part of it. I always tell people to wait two minutes. Just two minutes. With almost complete certainty the craving will go away, if it is just a craving. If it doesn’t go away then it may be time to eat. It is imperative to eat five to six meals a day. These must be reasonable meals so watch your portion control and keep your colors bright. What I mean by that is have less brown on your plate.  Go for more color. Eat things that you know will help, if you need energy use a complex carbohydrate, like whole wheat pasta or a sweet potato. Don’t shovel things into your body that are full of sodium, calories and bad carbs that will turn straight into fat and make you feel worse and leave you wanting more!

(Before we go on you might be wondering what bad carbs are because there’s good and bad carbs and the bad thing is that the bad carbs are the ones you probably purchase most. Bad carbs are the white rice, white bread, white flour. Avoid refined flours and sugars. Go for the wheat and whole grain products for good carbs.)

I’m telling you that if you eat the right things you get that "full" feeling and be able to keep those cravings to a minimum.  Avoid fast food!  Avoid the sodas and sweets!  Every once in a while it’s okay to indulge a small bit but if you want real results you need to commit and just do it for yourself. You don’t need a fancy diet you saw in some magazine or on a morning show. Just commit yourself and get it done. If you need someone to help you with your decision making and some guidance then that’s cool too. We have a passion for helping people better themselves and we are here to help you for free! If you ever have any questions at all about dieting, nutrition, working out, etc.. we can help and are glad to! Look us up on Facebook, Twitter, shoot us an email or just comment here! Good luck!

Is Beachbody A Scam?

There are a lot of people out there who think Beachbody is some sort of scam or pyramid scheme.  Through our experiences with Beachbody, Melissa and I can, with complete confidence, tell you that it’s not. Really, life is what you make of it. As with everything in life, you have people around you that bring a lot of negativity, no matter what you do.  You have to choose whether you listen to them, whether you let them bring you down, or if you make your own decisions and do what it takes to be successful.

Case in point, we have a close friend named Michael who’s just getting started with Beachbody. His father isn’t very supportive and keeps telling him to be careful because he may get burned; that it may be some sort of pyramid scheme.  Well, I can tell you that if he decides that he is going to do this full out and commits to staying the course; plus, if he follows what Melissa and I tell him to do, he will not only be successful in helping himself, he will help many, many others as well.

We get emails from customers and Coaches on a weekly basis, thanking us for all the help and guidance we have given them but honestly, they should be thanking themselves!  They are doing all the hard work.  Yes, a person needs to surround him/herself with positive people but what it boils down to is whether or not he/she is committed to do what it takes to make the change. With hard work and dedication comes success.  No matter what.  There are no shortcuts!

I haven’t always been a Beachbody success story myself. I’ve only been involved with Beachbody for five years but through hard work, dedication and with my wife Melissa at my side, we have built ourselves quite a life out of this business by helping hundreds of people change their lives for the better, both physically and financially.  It is our mission to help people reach their goals and lead more healthy, fulfilling lives.  So, if you think it's a scam by helping people, well, I question what a scam is.  The proof is in the pudding, so they say.  Look up Beachbody success stories and tell me if that is a scam or not.  People helping people... that's Beachbody.

If you think you might be interested in learning more or becoming a part of our team we are here and always willing to answer questions! We will help you in any way we can so you can achieve all you want to achieve.  So give it a shot!  Shoot us an email, catch us on Facebook or Twitter or simply just comment on this article.  Bring it!

Shocking Fast-Food Super-sizing Truths

Being a native Texan I take pride in the Lone Star State, but did you know that over twenty-eight percent of Texans are considered obese. I feel that’s twenty-eight percent too much. The biggest contributor to this disease is fast food. People are on this “Super-Size Me” trend where they feel they want to get the most bang for the buck so they order the largest meal possible. If you went to McDonalds and got a Big Mac meal with the large fry and coke it’s a total of 1,580 calories for one meal that will only fill you up for a short period of time. In the burger alone there forty grams of fat and over seventy carbs.

Add on to that the cost being 7 plus dollars for the meal. After eating fast food you always feel sluggish and fat. But there is an amazing substitute. Shakeology is the key. One shakeology is the equivalent to going to a salad bar; 5 times. It’s got 140 calories with only 1gram of fat and nineteen carbs. It will fill you up, make you feel healthy and keep you going on about your day without a guilty conscious. When you eat like crap you feel like crap, but when you eat good you feel good.

Shakeology has over 70 ingredients in it each with it’s own unique benefit. From the protein and amino acids that help build lean muscle or optimize brain function to the digestive enzymes that help break down foods and increase absorption of nutrients. If you went out and bought all of the supplements in Shakeology: the digestive enzymes, anti-oxidants, phyto nutrients, vitamins and minerals, protein and amino acids and pre-biotics you’d be spending 200 plus dollars.  One of the best parts of shakeology is the price, at only $4 a shake it doesn’t get any better! In this case less is definitely more. Nothing tastes as good as being fit feels.

Shakeology is nationally known and popular as well. CEO and creator Darin Olien was interviewed by the people at Oprah magazine in the May 2011 issue Shakeology was quoted as being “…a crazy cornucopia of good.” The creator of Beachbody Carl Daikeler challenged Olien to make something that was the healthiest meal of the day and I believe he’s succeeded in every way. I personally use Shakeology and recommend it to everyone. There’s no need to go out and get the supersized jumbo anything. Nothing tastes as good as being fit feels.
