Conquer Your Craving

For many people, junk food is not just an occasional indulgence but a true addiction. Our society does us no favors with its constant promotion of fast food, sweets and energy drinks. To simply say that we need to eliminate sugars and junk from our diets isn't enough- frankly, it's a hard task to take on. But, it's a necessary war to wage if you want to see dramatic changes in your appearance and over all well being. Denis Faye recently wrote a great article for the Beachbody newsletter in which he shared how he conquered his addiction to junk food. He states that it took him over 10 years to finally rid himself of his constant overeating and that it took a concerted effort to do so. The following are some of his tips to a healthier, junk-food-free life. To read the article in its entirety, including his story, head over the the Beachbody newsletter here.

6 Ways to Conquer Junk Food Habits

  1. Get rid of all the junk food that is in your home. You can't snack or binge on it if it's not there. Refill your empty shelves with healthy options like baby carrots, fresh fruit, etc.
  2. Strive for clean eating 80% of the time. The other 20% should be left to give yourself a break. The reality is, you will have moments of weakness. Faye suggests assigning one day a week to a treat- like Cookie Friday.
  3. Make eating healthy a ritual. Although there is no scientific proof, habits tend to form after about 21 days. So, make an effort to stick to your healthy snacking for that long and chances are the practice of healthy eating will become first instinct.
  4. Carry healthy foods with you. If you have a healthy option with you at all times you are less likely to grab whatever is available (typically cookies, fast food, or vending machine options).
  5. Adverse to certain fruits or veggies? Try some you've never had before so you don't have an opinion about them yet. Farmer's markets are full of variety- you are sure to find something you like.
  6. If you have to binge, do it on healthy options first. Fill up on fruits or veggies, so if the worst happens (i.e. ice cream or chips) you will have already filled up on the good stuff.

Obviously these tips may not work for everyone, but they offer any junk food junky a few ways to start on their journey to clean eating.

Team Beachbody in Canada

A few weeks ago Beachbody made a huge announcement...the pre-launch of Team Beachbody Canada. For the first time Canadian customers have the opportunity to become a Beachbody coach and grow their own businesses in their own country. While this new opportunity is exciting, there are a few important things to know if you are thinking of becoming a new coach. Per a FAQ by Beachbody, the company is still in the process of completing registration and regulatory approvals with the Canadian government. This means that until the official launch, which is anticipated to take place in early 2013, Canadian coaches will be operating a U.S. independent business. However, once the official launch occurs a Canadian resident's U.S. business will transfer to a Canadian business.

Despite a few technicalities, Canadian coaches will have all the benefits of being a part of Team Beachbody, including:

  • Saving 25% on all Beachbody products.
  • Earning a 25% commission on all products sold through coaches sites.
  • Recruit U.S.. or Canadian citizens to become coaches.
  • Access to all marketing and training tools.
  • Compensation Plan

This is an exciting new phase for both current Beachbody coaches and Canadian citizens. The amazing products, community, and life change that comes with being a member of Team Beachbody is going to change Canada for the better!! We can't wait!

No more food porn. Make a plan.

 

Probably the number one question that I receive from customers when it comes to losing weight and, more importantly, getting healthier is, “What should I be eating?” Well, as with everything else in life, you need a plan and your plan must be simple. Exercise and eating right doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s as easy as getting a calendar and a spiral notebook. I know you’re probably saying, “What the heck are you talking about, Robert?”

 

Okay, it's simple, know ahead of time when you're going to workout. Write it on a calendar or if you are more technical, put it in your iPhone, iPad, Whatever!  Schedule out the whole month in advance!  When you do this and see it actually in writing (or on the screen), you are a lot more likely to work out at those times... I know, it's crazy but it's true!

If you really want results and want them quickly, you have to stop eating what Tony Horton calls "FOOD PORN."  Food porn is basically fried foods, refined flours, simple carbs, sodas and dairy (yes... I said dairy).  Remove the porn from the house and buy fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. If doing this all at once seems too daunting then try to do it for most of your meals. Some people will only be able to do the 50/50 plan which is eating clean 50% of the time and eating "not so clean for the other 50%.  Three meals a day, seven days a week makes for 21 meals. Make 11 of them healthy (you know what that looks like) and keep the rest ugly. The hope over time is that 11 good meals becomes 12 and 10 bad becomes 9, etc.  Some can go as far as the 90/10 plan.  I lean more towards the 90/10. You have to decide ahead of time which meals are clean and which are PORN.

If you really struggle with your healthy diet then start writing down what you eat. Try this for just 3 weeks. Buy a spiral notebook and start keeping track of every morsel. Grade yourself at the end of each day. Healthy foods get no grades while junk/porn get a negative number. That blue cheese dressing in your healthy salad gets a negative 1. Add bacon bits and you're at a negative 2. On a 1 to 10 scale 8, 9, & 10 are best. Below 5 means you've been cheating all day long.

Your simple plan is to schedule workouts so that you can stay consistent and find a food philosophy that works for you.  When you do this, you will be concentrating on what you are doing, you will be following a plan and you will be seeing greater results in no time!

Shakeology versus Visalus

We have all seen comparisons out there so we decided to do one of our own. Our official SHAKEOLOGY versus Body by Vi shake. For this test we wanted to not be bias so we used FoodFacts.com.

You can clearly see that Shakeology scored higher and it is in fact one of the highest scoring products on the website.

Throughout the various comparisons that I've read the majority of them have had Shakeology on top. The only category that Body By Vi has won is in the taste category because some people say that the Shakeology is "too greenberry-y" or "too chocolaty". I don't think that's a bad thing at all. You purchase those flavors because you like them and even then you can always alter it by adding your fruits or other pleasures. Hands down here at the Hudgens household the winner is clearly Shakeology. A reason the Visalus shake may taste better is because they use artificial sweeteners as well. You pour enough of that into anything and it'll taste good. 

So even though both companies are going for the same goal. Ending the trend of obesity. There is always a better, more efficient way of doing anything and that is with Shakeology.

Happy Holidays and HAPPY NEW YEAR from Monster Home Fitness!

We had a very busy Holiday break here at the Hudgens household. We took a short trip to Cancun before Christmas to escape the cold here in Dallas and we had a blast.  After what seemed like a short Holiday break the kiddos are back in school and 2012 as begun. Everyone always makes their new year resolutions to lose weight, or be healthy, or get fit. But you have to actually commit if you want to see the changes take place. Ask yourself, how many times have you told yourself you were going to lose weight as your new year resolution? And whether it's 5 pounds or 50 pounds have you lost that weight yet?

Being good friends with Tony Horton I got a chance to be in the new videos. I'm in the P.A.P Upper P90X2 DVD! I told myself when I started P90X that one day I would be the ripped guy in the video working out with Tony Horton and look at me now. The same exact thing could happen for you! If you commit then anything can happen. If you want to lose 5 pounds of 50 pounds P90X is the right first step for you! I wouldn't recommend P90X2 until you've completed P90X first.
