P90X Dallas was a Success!

This past Sunday we met with over 200 participants to workout alongside the P90X creator, Tony Horton. He flew down to the Lone Star State to show us a preview of P90X3, and let's just say...It was awesome. The cardio workout will stretch you like never before and leave you wanting more. We also had a chance to hear Tony's Top Tips for reaching your fitness goals and several success stories from Beachbody coaches. We also had a Q&A session with Tony and had the chance to take a closer look into his diet and his workout routine. The day was finished with a P90X Yoga session. We had a blast and have gotten to hear some neat stories from people that have attended the event.  Thank you to everyone who came out to the event! We had a great time and a BIG thank you to all the volunteers that helped at this event!

Dieting Myths

Making the decision to become healthier is exciting but getting started can be difficult. There are so many different ways to incorporate fitness and clean eating into your life that it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Beachbody offers a host of great workouts that you can do right from your home- INSANITY, TurboFire, P90X and P90X2. They also offer great eating plans and dieting resources. One of those resources, the Beachbody Newsletter, has a great article on some of the most common dieting myths. These are the ones that stuck out to me: :

1. It's organic...it must be healthy. Organic foods are great and you should try to eat them as much as possible. But, just because it is organic doesn't mean that it is good for you. Organic simply means that it does not contain or been produced using antibiotics, growth hormones, conventional pesticides, and synthetic ingredients. But, no matter how organic a cookie is, it's still just a cookie. The calories don't magically disappear in organic foods, so be careful!

2. Order a salad if you don't know what you should eat. This myth can be a good option in many scenarios, but again you have to be careful to know what you are ordering. Salads slathered with creamy dressings and topped with bacon, eggs, candied nuts, etc are not a healthy choice. It's best to go with dressing on the side and only fresh veggie toppings.

3. Avoid snacking on fruit- it's just sugar. Yes, fruit contains sugar. But it also contains antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. A candy bar doesn't offer any of those! So, while sugar can be an enemy to you weight loss, fruit is the perfect alternative to junk!

Our Story- How Beachbody Transformed Our Lives

Robert and Melissa’s fitness journey is not that different from most people except for the fact that they have been doing it together. The whole thing started when Robert found P90X on the internet back in 2005. When Robert first told Melissa that he had bought it, she was not too happy. Feeling that he has just wasted their money, she challenged him to get the same results that others had. Well, that was just the challenge that Robert needed. In those first 90 days with P90X and following the nutrition guide, Robert experienced incredible results, including 18 pounds lost, 17% body fat lost and seven inches around his waist lost. But it wasn’t so much about all that was lost, it was more about all that he gained. He gained his self-esteem, his self-image and his “swagger” back! Well, once Melissa saw what the program did for Robert, she was a believer and as you can see from her 90 day results, the program worked just as good for her as it did for Robert. And since that first 90 days with P90X, Robert and Melissa have been working out together,  mixing in some other programs like P90X+, One-on-One, Insanity, Turbo Fire, ChaLEAN Extreme and more. Plus, with their daily Shakeology, they continue to maintain their healthy lifestyle and enjoy the opportunity to help others do the same as Independent Coaches for Team Beachbody.

Team Beachbody in Canada

A few weeks ago Beachbody made a huge announcement...the pre-launch of Team Beachbody Canada. For the first time Canadian customers have the opportunity to become a Beachbody coach and grow their own businesses in their own country. While this new opportunity is exciting, there are a few important things to know if you are thinking of becoming a new coach. Per a FAQ by Beachbody, the company is still in the process of completing registration and regulatory approvals with the Canadian government. This means that until the official launch, which is anticipated to take place in early 2013, Canadian coaches will be operating a U.S. independent business. However, once the official launch occurs a Canadian resident's U.S. business will transfer to a Canadian business.

Despite a few technicalities, Canadian coaches will have all the benefits of being a part of Team Beachbody, including:

  • Saving 25% on all Beachbody products.
  • Earning a 25% commission on all products sold through coaches sites.
  • Recruit U.S.. or Canadian citizens to become coaches.
  • Access to all marketing and training tools.
  • Compensation Plan

This is an exciting new phase for both current Beachbody coaches and Canadian citizens. The amazing products, community, and life change that comes with being a member of Team Beachbody is going to change Canada for the better!! We can't wait!

No more food porn. Make a plan.

 

Probably the number one question that I receive from customers when it comes to losing weight and, more importantly, getting healthier is, “What should I be eating?” Well, as with everything else in life, you need a plan and your plan must be simple. Exercise and eating right doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s as easy as getting a calendar and a spiral notebook. I know you’re probably saying, “What the heck are you talking about, Robert?”

 

Okay, it's simple, know ahead of time when you're going to workout. Write it on a calendar or if you are more technical, put it in your iPhone, iPad, Whatever!  Schedule out the whole month in advance!  When you do this and see it actually in writing (or on the screen), you are a lot more likely to work out at those times... I know, it's crazy but it's true!

If you really want results and want them quickly, you have to stop eating what Tony Horton calls "FOOD PORN."  Food porn is basically fried foods, refined flours, simple carbs, sodas and dairy (yes... I said dairy).  Remove the porn from the house and buy fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. If doing this all at once seems too daunting then try to do it for most of your meals. Some people will only be able to do the 50/50 plan which is eating clean 50% of the time and eating "not so clean for the other 50%.  Three meals a day, seven days a week makes for 21 meals. Make 11 of them healthy (you know what that looks like) and keep the rest ugly. The hope over time is that 11 good meals becomes 12 and 10 bad becomes 9, etc.  Some can go as far as the 90/10 plan.  I lean more towards the 90/10. You have to decide ahead of time which meals are clean and which are PORN.

If you really struggle with your healthy diet then start writing down what you eat. Try this for just 3 weeks. Buy a spiral notebook and start keeping track of every morsel. Grade yourself at the end of each day. Healthy foods get no grades while junk/porn get a negative number. That blue cheese dressing in your healthy salad gets a negative 1. Add bacon bits and you're at a negative 2. On a 1 to 10 scale 8, 9, & 10 are best. Below 5 means you've been cheating all day long.

Your simple plan is to schedule workouts so that you can stay consistent and find a food philosophy that works for you.  When you do this, you will be concentrating on what you are doing, you will be following a plan and you will be seeing greater results in no time!

Tony Horton was on Dr.Oz 10.31.11, see what you missed!

Tony Horton fitness guru was on the Dr.Oz show yesterday 10.31.11. He did a special 10 minute daily workout that's a quick and easy way to shed pounds and get toned.

This Miracle Plan is divided up into 3 Steps.

  1. 90-10 Diet
  2. Accountability Calender
  3. Working Out

Step 1:

The 90-10 Diet. Which is 90% healthy food and 10% not so healthy. Tony says its all about finding ways to make the healthy things taste good. "Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats. You know I don't like steamed vegetables either but ya know you put salsa on them and all of a sudden they taste good". You want to look down at your plate and see color. If you have 90% healthy meal then you can slip in half a brownie for dessert. 

Us here at Monster Home Fitness recommend the same. We follow his nutritional tips as well. Whole grain instead of white flour. Opt in for the Parkay fake butter instead of even the I Cant Believe Its Not Butter. Non-fat cheese and etc... If you actually make a list and think about what you're putting into your body and next time you go to the store if you actually buy the right (I mean healthy) ingredients/groceries then you'll start to make a difference.


Step 2: Be Accountable

Tony said, "I've been keeping this calender for over 30 years and I write down appointments with myself because my health and fitness is priority 1."

Write down your appointments and then at the end of the day cross them out and hope you have filled more than half the month. Some months Tony workouts 19 days in a row, some weeks only 5 times a week but that is the MINIMUM. No less than 5 days a week. 

Melissa and I try and workout every single day. Some days because of errands or just spending time with the kids we can't but I can tell you for a fact that we workout 5 days a week.

Step 3: 10 Min Workout

This is the 8 step 10min workout that Tony gives for this Miracle Plan to help lose weight and get toned.

#1 The Push Up Side Arm Balance

You want to do 8 of those each side. 

#2 30 Seconds of feet drills. 

Just 30 seconds of basic feet drills to get the heart pumpin.

#3 Fifer Scissors

We all know the P90X famous Fifer Scissors from Ab Ripper X

#4 Plyo Lunges x15


#5 Two Dog Push-Up. Tony combines upward dog and downward dog with a two step pushup.


#6 Hook-Upper Cut-Back Kick


#7 Abernome (think metranome but with your legs working your abs)

#8 Spider Man Squats

Basically a squat reach touch jump spin.


That's it! We don't all have time for 30+ minute daily workouts and I understand that. Before I was with Beachbody I was a firefighter working hard hours and I didn't have all the time I wanted but I made it work anyways. Sometimes you just have to make it happen if you want it bad enough.
